A sentence construction game that puts the _____ in language learning.
VERBA™ is a language education card game developed by The Pericles Group. The concept is incredibly simple: one player (acting as the judge) draws a random card containing a fill-in-the-blank sentence in the target language, and the other players each play an illustrated card featuring a noun. The judge selects the ‘best’ card played (as defined by their own standard), and the person who played that card scores a point. Gameplay continues with the previous round’s winner becoming the next round’s judge.
All VERBA™ players benefit from seeing high-frequency words with many repetitions in a context that fosters richly authentic learning and comprehensible input as informed by best practices for second language acquisition. As with all of The Pericles Group, LLC's games, play and learning objectives are aligned at a one-to-one ratio such that players win by constructing comprehensible sentences—precisely the same thing as they are meant to do outside the classroom environment.
